“An investment in knowledge pays the best interest”.
Benjamin Franklin

For the first time ever, the University of Ghana, School of Law was participating in the Willem C Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot. We were privileged to have been part of the team to take part in this significant event.

Our memoranda writing stage gave us more insight into the competition and the more we researched, the more our interest in the moot was piqued.

We looked forward to our participation in the oral hearings in Vienna and each practice session made us even the more excited for this. It felt like nothing could stop us, and so we worked harder. However, there was something that could stop us: Funding.

For a first-time team who only begun their claimant memo a month prior to the due date, we had not had much time to plan fundraising strategies. Neither did we have partnerships with institutions that we could fall on. Our university and a few benevolent individuals donated to enable us to realize our dream of pleading in Vienna; but we still needed more to cover our expenses.

We got to know of the Karl-Heinz Bockstiegel Award through our coordinators at Africa in The Moot, and we were excited because we saw it as a chance for funding our dream. We submitted our claimant memo along with the other requirements. Our joy knew no bounds when the awardees were announced, and our team was one of the two teams chosen.

We are very grateful to the Karl-Heinz Bockstiegel Foundation, whose support was key in our participation in the 31st Willem C Vis Moot competition. We appreciate your generosity.

It is our ardent hope that you continue with your support of the Moot to enable other teams, who may otherwise be unable to participate to become a part of this great and educative event each year.
